Lucian's clothes, courtesy of a June Planning Captain Hook Taeyang doll, arrived today. Overall, it's too big, better suited to fit a Cy Girl [see Frank modeling the jacket below] or a male action figure than a slightly built, slender male figure as Lucian.

Furthermore, much to my disgust and annoyance, all elements are well-made of soft, lined fabric, except for the dang shirt. The blouse is made of a sleazy pink fabric more appropriate for cheap playline Barbies. When I pay a lot for a doll or its outfit, I expect high-quality fabrics, not something that I can find on a $5.00 doll in the department store.

I don't know what I'm going to do with these clothes. I like the jacket; it's well-structured, form-fitting and nicely lined, along with being a deep dark red. But I refuse to offend Lucian's [and my] standards by dressing him in the blouse that I thought would work so well for him. Back to the drawing board...

I substituted the carpentry scrap boosters for little pieces of dowel to raise up the rolltop Batchix gave me. Now it looks much better!Read more... )

My rolltop desk came in the mail today! This is Ellery's desk. As you can see in the first photo, it needs some help. As you can see in the second photo, with Frank for comparison, it's also a little small, probably closer to 1:8 than 1:6. However, I can make this work. I think that I will add some legs, if I can find any, to boost the height, which will make the scale seem more agreeable. It's a nice little piece, and, for $5.00, I can't complain. It has a lot more character than the plastic Barbie desk that I was planning to use.

I picked up a Hallmark ornament of Silken Flame Barbie and her travel case to be a doll for Ellery to play with. Today I got the mini doll and the mini case in the mail and checked them out against Jareth and Frank...just the right size to be a doll's doll! The doll can be put in and taken out of the left side of the carrier, and the bottom drawer opens. The clothes on the right, however, are molded into the sculpture of the carrier.

To find similar items on Ebay, search for "barbie traveling case ornament" or similar. Barbie ornaments of dolls without traveling cases are not in correct scale.

So here are old lighting results with parchment paper over the lamps:Read more... )

EDIT: Uh oh, the light looks too brown. I'll have to substitute wax paper for the parchment paper.

I put some parchment paper over my lamps this evening to diffuse the harsh full-spectrum light. Here is a picture of the lamps.Read more... )

From my parents' house I also brought two tapestries, bigger than I thought they were, for use in making Lucian's castle set. Frank provides scale [and a really large dildo!].Read more... )

I got my new full-spectrum lamp today! Here's my desk with the new setup. Please ignore the piles of 1:3 clothing I have to either get rid of [on left] or dress Janvier Jett in [on right]. I'm preliminarily pleased with the brightness and clarity of the results.Read more... )

I feel somewhat guilty about having 17 extra 1:6 dolls hanging around. By “extra,” I mean that they have no point. I keep them because I like them, not because they play any part in my major dolly project, LHF.

A family photo occasions Jennifer's new body, a DML Eve 1.5. The DML 1.5 body, much more robust and bigger than the original Momoko body, makes Jennifer's head look slightly smaller, but I think this adds to the impression of her being a mature woman with kind of a baby face.

L to R: Jareth, Jennifer, Frank. Read more... )

Here are 1:6 versions of three-quarters of the characters in my head (left to right): Jareth, Jennifer and Frank. Doll of me not included because it doesn't have a head. Interestingly enough, the dolls don't really look like the characters, but they accurately capture their moods: Jareth serious and shy, Jennifer energetic and innocent, Frank playful and sex-obsessed.

Jennifer, who is a Momoko, came in today, so her arrival occasioned these portraits.Read more... )

Kathlen arrived today! She's such a cutie. Her head is perfect for Absinthe's upgrade, especially the serene sleeping face. However, Kathlen's body is much too short. Below, Kathlen stands in a line-up with some of the shortest LHF characters with my 1:6 Frank for comparison. From left to right, they are Kathlen, Susie, the old version of Absinthe, Davry, Little Will and then Frank [not an LHF cast member]. I'd like Absinthe's upgrade to be shorter than Little Will.Fascinating line-up below. )

I got some beading elastic, fake fur and pompoms last night. New developments in decora include elastic bracelets made of small glass beads and FURRY LEGWARMERS WITH POMPOMS!!!! The more that I photograph Frank in this style, the more I see how its loud, bright flourishes of pattern and color are perfect for his flamboyant, cheerful personality. I fear it will be difficult to pry the clothes away from him when Zinnia Pascale arrives....Read more... )

Following Andrea's advice to eschew unpatterned solids, I removed the white arm sleeves, pink stockings and red pleather vest. Now the stockings are multi-colored stripes. The vest is purple with silver glittery spots. I subbed the origami choker for a ruby/diamond ring and a lock pendant with rhinestones. Still to do: Make hair doo-dads. Make eyepatch [as Zinnia Pascale is missing an eye]. Make one earring [or two, depending on how many ears she has].
Are you blind from mismatch yet? )

I don't think so. I think I need ribbon and seed beads for hair doo-dads. Made some more origami bracelets and sewed the flowers onto the vest and the belt. They remind me of squirty flowers for clowns.Read more... )

Frank models the latest in 1:6 decora duds in the absence of their true owner, Zinnia Pascale, who is in the mail [woohoo!]. Changes include a new skirt, bracelets and choker out of origami paper and the felt zinnia belt buckle that I was talking about [currently attached with a pin because I don't want to sew it just yet]. I still need some more hair doodads [to be made when I actually get Zinnia Pascale] and some decoration for the backpack. Maybe something cute and dead...

Frank shows everyone what a Fruit[s] he is by helpfully wearing my decora outfit while I go get a zombie to put in it. Please note that the outfit is a work in progress; I still have to add a belt [craft foam?], various felt or craft foam hair decorations [hearts, teddy bears, kitties, smiley faces, etc.], a purse in the form of a stuffed animal and FUZZY LEGWARMERS!!! That said, I think it looks pretty damn good for having been scrounged entirely from my drawers of spare clothes.
