Some weeks ago, I used one of the last warm days in November to empty a can of fluorescent pink spray paint on the base of Chaz' electric wheelchair, a 1:24 scale ForTwo Smart Car.
Success with poodle shag wigs!

Making wigs out of poodle shag faux fur requires more patience than making fur wigs out of regular faux fur. I finally achieved acceptable results for Chaz [top] and Doctor Z [bottom].

To work with the poodle shag, I marked the pattern with lightly sketched pen, which did not bleed through the backing as much as my usual marker, a Sharpie permanent. I also cut large to compensate for the poodle shag backing's lack of stretch. I also glued in small pieces to the finished wigs to fill in any bare areas, which appear more readily with poodle shag, as it is sparser than straight fur fibers. Finally, in Chaz' case, I quickly whipped a light application of diluted Mod Podge through her hair so that it kept its loft and kink, but maintained more of a definite shape. I left Doctor Z's hair loose, as I'm going for an Einsteinian air with her.

I'm very pleased with the poodle shag wigs I've made. The kinky fibers work well for in-scale, small, tight curls. I accomplished what I wanted to do -- make wild hair for Doctor Z -- and now I have little incentive to work with the remaining scraps, especially since they're so difficult.

comments

I darkened the shadows around Chaz' eyes today. I also tried to make her a wig of some of the poodle shag swatches, but I found it too difficult to work with. It has a more slippery, stretchy backing than regular faux fur, so it's hard to measure and cut. >:(

comments

Chaz, a denizen of Zombieville [my future storyline], is a Batchix Nan Sook BJD in tan resin. Her spondis [fictional condition that causes people's body parts to fall off, which can only be arrested by a diet of 50% fresh human brains] has cost her her right hand and forearm, as well as her left foot and calf. Ideally she should use an electric wheelchair, but I only have one, which is currently occupied, so :p.

Chaz rescued her Russian tortoise Dandelion after Dandelion lost her leg in a car crash. Chaz nursed Dandelion back to health with a steady diet of dandelions...hence her name. Chaz and Dandelion love each other very much. ^_^

Dandelion is a custom Russian tortoise figurine sculpted by theTurtlePond on Etsy. She is anatomically detailed down to the accurate patterns on her shell. She is stylized, though, with a bigger head and eyes than true scale, as well as an overall larger size. [Female Russian tortoises rarely get over 8 inches long, from beak to rear feet.] She's also smiling. I plan to put some wheels on an elastic strap that fits around Dandelion's shell so that she can have a tortoise wheelchair.( Read more... )

comments

Chaz got some eyes and clothes this weekend. The eyes are 8mm acrylics that came with my Elfdoll Doona Ryung. Surprisingly for acrylics, they really reflect light well, so she's keeping them.

Chaz is one of my favorite dolls. There's something to be said for neutral expressions that can be subtly or dramatically altered through paint jobs. I must admit that I do like a definite expression, though, and Chaz' is so charming. She looks just so sweet-tempered, as if she has a constant sense of wonder at how amazingly beautiful life is. I think she's a bleeding heart liberal who rescues bugs and puts them outside... ^_^ She won't need much of a faceup to bring out the beauty of her headsculpt.

comments

I gave up trying to string her arms and ended up just wiring them.

Waiting for her wheelchair!

comments

Finally got around to opening my Batchix Nan Sook this afternoon. [She arrived while I was away last week.] I gave her a bath to wash away the resin powder still attached. Here she is drying with her extra pieces: two heads [minus headcaps] and another torso.( Read more... )

comments

I've been thinking about it, and I've made some name changes...

Kinneret is now Isabel Forrest.

Béatrice keeps her name and adds Doucette for a surname, as well as French Canadian ancestry.

Theophany keeps Theophany as a daily name, but her given name is Tiffany Marvin. [Tiffany was too boring.]

??? is now Chaz, short for Chastity, Loving. It should be obvious why she goes by Chaz. :p

I notice that there are no cis dudes in the Vermont zombie community yet, and I'm perfectly okay with leaving them out. That's because cis dudes are incredibly boring. They've been done before.

comments

The following items are on their way to support my <strike>doll</strike> crack habit:

First off, electric wheelchair parts! I ordered two ZC World Online office chairs, one pink, one blue, from their first series, not their weird, webbing-based second series. I also ordered two New Ray 1:24 scale Fortwos, color irrelevant, as they will be sculpted lightly over and repainted. Finally, I got two Iwako erasers in the shape of pencil sharpeners for joyboxes.

While I was on the site, I also ordered erasers in the shapes of a laptop, a tablet computer and a box of crackers that look suspiciously like Ritz. These will not be part of the electric wheelchairs. :p

Second, I got a 1:6 scale door!!!!!! It's a fancy wooden frame for a photo album, measuring about 8 x 13 inches, which is good enough for me. Needs a door knob, as well as the eradication of that wreath-like travesty up by the fan light, but that's okay. I also don't mind the dings and scratches because well-used front doors rarely look pristine. Best of all, this was just $15.84, most of which was shipping in a medium priority flat rate box.

Oh yeah, and, if anyone wants to search for a similar door, it's from House of Lloyd in their Christmas around the World series. I recommend searching for "christmas door photo album," though. Very few of the Ebay listings for this door mention its brand. It was incredibly hard to find that information, by the way, so you're welcome. :p
( Look...a door! )

As i have repeatedly mentioned, Theophany will be coming home from Andrea's house later this month, along with some neon ribbons for Novella's crop top straps and flame-like fabric for Mellifer's wrap skirt.

In other 1:6 scale BJD news, there's another one coming. She's a completed tan Nan Sook by Batchix, along with some damaged heads and a junk torso. I'm thrilled to have another addition [really cute, also really rare!] to my 1:6 scale resin hordes at an unbelievable steal, and Batchix is thrilled that someone wants one of her factory second BJDs. No name or character yet, but I would like to do some zombification experiments on her spare parts.... Muah hah hah! >:}

comments
