Tiny peoples on my shelf!!!
Dec. 9th, 2012 09:20 pmMost of the time, there are just a few people on my bookshelf beside my chair: Janvier Jett, Submit, Araminthe and Sardonix.
They were recently joined by Zombieville denizens in various stages of completion: Béatrice, Chaz, Theophany, Novella and Absinthe, who is not an Zombieville citizen, but is hanging around because she is beautiful.
Because Me and My Muses is on hiatus and because I need the desk space for projects, I temporarily relocated the Me and My Muses people to this shelf as well, leaving only the fairies [Flower, Ginevra and Mellifer] and Jareth on my desk.
Here's a shot of the tiny hordes. I swear -- they multiply when I'm not looking. :p

Me and My Muses musings
Sep. 17th, 2012 07:22 pmI wrote from 1.1 through 6.3 of Me and My Muses in a rush of inspiration last fall and then hit a complete and utter WALL. I had absolutely no idea what Ellery and Jamisia were going to do together. Since I knew that I would take months to even get to season 6, I figured I had nothing immediate to worry about, so I began to post eps weekly.
As soon as I got into the swing of Me and My Muses, I loved it. More specifically, I loved Ellery and Lucian. So did the readers [all 6 of you]. I received many compliments about Ellery and Lucian's character development, the exploration of imagination and reality and Ellery's sexual experimentation. Mostly, though, people really enjoyed Ellery and Lucian's snarky banter. It amused them and made them feel closer to the characters. Hey, it did the same for me too!
Season 3 ended on August 19th, almost a month ago. First, I needed a break from 8 months of weekly eps. Second, I was creeping closer to the WALL, still lacking in ideas of how to surmount it. I decided to seriously address the WALL by devoting the hiatus to overcoming it, first by thinking about it constantly in the back of my mind, finally by brainstorming my way over it.
I have spent the past month contemplating the WALL and not gaining any brilliant ideas as to its circumvention. I have, however, crystallized an important realization: I originally planned Me and My Muses as the story of Ellery's serial monogamy with three muses: Lucian, Mazzy and Jamisia. However, despite my initial plans, the heart of the story lies between Ellery and Lucian. Not only do I love them, the readers do too. Most importantly, they are the strongest characters. They have lives of their own in a way that none of the others do, and they're compelling me to tell their story, rather than the story of Ellery and Lucian and Mazzy and Jamisia.
In deference to my incredibly pushy, stubborn and demanding characters, I've given up telling the story I want to tell. Instead, I'm telling the story they want me to tell. I have changed my perspective from that of an architect following a meticulous blueprint to that of a hiker following more experienced guides on an unknown trail. Stupendously enough, the WALL has disappeared. It was a trompe l'oeil barrier erected mainly by my narrow perspective.
All of this is to say that I know where I'm going now...or, more precisely, I do not know exactly where I'm going, but I trust Ellery and Lucian to take me there. We're over the WALL and out of the hole, and regular eps of Me and My Muses will be back in early October! \o/

Ellery the geek and Lucian the sly
Oct. 17th, 2011 07:48 pmEllery and Lucian's clothes from Andrea came today! Sadly the jeans and the underwear did not fit because the measurements that I gave Andrea were too small, though I took them from Lumedoll's Web site. Regardless, here's Ellery the geek with her questionable sense of style and Lucian the sly, finally with pants. Bonus picture of them together!!( Read more... )

Ellery and Lucian arrive!!
Oct. 12th, 2011 06:33 pmEllery and Lucian came today. They are so beautiful. The Lumedoll resin has a solid, chalky quality that I really like, with delicate tones and a nice tooth for scribbling on with watercolor pencil.

Working on the details in Ellery's room
Sep. 20th, 2011 05:28 pmHere are Ellery's desk, end table and bookshelf as I begin to add to them from my store of Rements and other small items. I'm leaving some space on her desk and bookshelf for the small hordes of Homies that should be coming soon...
Out of all of these, my favorite piece is the Rement end table, featuring a working lamp with a shade that has animals all over it!( Read more... )

Rolltop desk from Batchix!
Sep. 17th, 2011 03:06 pmMy rolltop desk came in the mail today! This is Ellery's desk. As you can see in the first photo, it needs some help. As you can see in the second photo, with Frank for comparison, it's also a little small, probably closer to 1:8 than 1:6. However, I can make this work. I think that I will add some legs, if I can find any, to boost the height, which will make the scale seem more agreeable. It's a nice little piece, and, for $5.00, I can't complain. It has a lot more character than the plastic Barbie desk that I was planning to use.

A doll for Ellery
Sep. 8th, 2011 09:54 pmEllery plays with dolls, so, naturally, I need to get her some dolls. I would like the dolls to be around 1:36 scale, that is, 1:6 scale for 1:6 scale people, but I can go with slightly larger or smaller. Anyway, I bought Ellery an awesome little replica of Silken Flame Barbie and her carrying case. It is a Hallmark ornament with two pieces, one the doll, the other the carrying case, which actually has an opening drawer. It's either 1:36 scale or a little smaller. Pictures when I get mine! No, I won't tell you how much I paid for it.
EDIT: I also got her a set of 3 1:36 GI Joe ornaments, including a GI Joe, an ATV and a mummy's sarcophagus. Yay, now she will have truly scaled dolls! No, I won't tell you what I paid for those either.
EDIT 2: I also got her a set of 12 Homies figures, which are 1.75 to 2 inches tall, just right for 1:36 scale. It was only $6.00 for 12!

More clothes for Lumedoll Lumelights
Aug. 30th, 2011 12:18 pmSearching for "blythe sports shoes" on Ebay brings up a selection of footwear <$10.00 a pair that will accommodate Lumelight fems' feet.
Andrea [who is God] tells me that Momoko and Pullip clothes will very likely be too small for Ellery and Jessica, so I have commissioned someone [=God] to make a stylistically clashing wardrobe for Ellery.
My ideal wardrobe for Ellery would be
Jessica Jamisia. I will just use a dress [Ebru's] and apron [Materyllis', shown under her felt apron here] from Andrea that I already have, and I'll leave it at that. I'm already laying out quite a bit for the 4 main dolls themselves and Ellery and Lucian's clothes, so I'd like to save where possible.

My ideal wardrobe for Ellery would be
- a tiered skirt of mismatching layers
- some underwear [bra and briefs]
- a T-shirt that says FEMINIST
- a T-shirt that says GEEK
- a pair of jeans that go up to her waist
- a long-sleeved shirt to wear open over the T-shirts [i.e., doesn't need fasteners] and
- as many as possible pairs of sleeves with all different patterns and colors.
I think Ellery might need her clothes. They're not very dykey, but they are atrociously mismatched. Unfortunately, again, as is the case with Nosferatu Taeyang, a doll comes with the clothes. Poop.
P.S. She has blue shoes!!

Delayed gratification
Aug. 27th, 2011 01:11 pmToday I just ordered a Lumedoll Erine, large bust, and a Lumedoll Lucas, regular body! I didn't get the aforementioned Soom Uyoo after all, so I went ahead and got the two chronologically first characters in Me and My Muses: Ellery and Lucian. In 6 to 8 weeks, I should have them!
Also Janvier Jett is here, a mere 1.5 miles from me, but waiting at the post office till Monday. Bleh.

Me and My Muses...dolls, updated
Aug. 25th, 2011 10:24 amMy earlier plot of putting a Lumedoll Lucas [male] head on a Lumedoll fem body will not work for Mazzy, so he needs a different headsculpt. I may just get another Lumedoll Arine and paint it differently, emphasizing the link between Ellery and her muses by similarity of features. In that case, maybe Jessica should be an Arine as well with a small bust?
