I have trimmed away Pearlene's skull globe -- basically everything except her face -- and discovered that, while a bit large, her face is acceptable for my 1:6 scale purposes. All that extra size was in the height and depth of her skull globe! I carved her neck hole out a bit more and stuck her on a 5StarDoll tiny BJD torso just to demonstrate the effect of a short, wide neck on her face. The width of the neck stretches out her face a little bit and makes her look fat.

I will not be using the 5StarDoll BJD body for Pearlene, however. This body from my stash will do nicely instead.

Please note that this is not a default figure. I had modified it for an earlier character by getting rid of the stock head, removing the sound feature and resculpting the neck.

A bit of background. This body says "(c) Re: Play! 2001" on its ass. It's from a line of "Real Heroes" action figures, including astronauts and fire fighters, among others. The dolls came with scarily square headsculpts, fabric outfits and plastic accessories -- in short, everything you'd expect from a 1:6 scale action figure, except these were about 10" high, rather than 12". Other unusual identifying features included jointed hands, a sound feature and a "Real Heroes" tattoo on each figure's right bicep.

Further information, as well as pictures, can be found at Action Figure Universe, where the figures are identified as 1:8 scale. Also the always-helpful Michael Crawford's Review of the Week discusses them in detail, including nude default photos, so you can see what the body looked like before I attacked it.

Anyway, before I could use this body for Pearlene, it needed some help. As you can see in the "before" picture, the neck and shoulder area just looks fuckin' weird, while the arms cannot hang straight down at the sides. Dremel to the rescue! I cut off the whole problematic neck area and made another cut through the torso at armpit level so I could remove the arms. I also amputated the jointed hands, which, while cool in concept, had oddly flexed thumbs and made very unrealistic fists.

Reattached the breast plate, hung the arms in there to test length, cut a bit out of forearms, drilled holes in 'em, popped some femfig hands on Sideshow wrist pegs, inserted hands, took a bit of height out of thighs just above knee joints, reglued legs together with hot glue, cut down the feet so they could fit in desired shoes.
