I've been fucking around behind the scenes for the past few weeks with my journal, mostly with tags. I currently have 464, and I'm trying to make them work effectively for me.
First, I've been consolidating duplicates. For example, I used to have tags for "mattel," "barbie," "kelly" and "monster high." All "barbie" and/or "kelly" and/or "monster high" posts received the "mattel" tag. Therefore, "mattel" was a redundant tag. Besides, I don't identify non-BJD dolls by their company anyway; I identify them by their product line. Thus I removed "mattel" and made sure that all posts about Mattel products were tagged with the product line.
Second, I've been subdividing highly used tags. The tag "feminism," for example, covers a wide range of topics having to do with sex and gender. I'd like to replace it with some tags like "misogyny," "gender presentation," "masculinity," "femininity," etc. Once a tag gets up to 253 uses [the current tally for "feminism"], it's not particularly helpful in finding anything. Eventually, I'd like to subdivide all the high-use tags into more manageable categories and delete the high-use ones.
Third, there are a lot of single-use tags reflecting entries that I don't go hunting for often. For example, the tag "esmie" points to a custom 1:6er I made, photoed and eventually disassembled, while "pierce" points to an idea for a doll that was never executed. There's gotta be a way to keep these entries findable [in case there's a time when I really do give a shit] without cluttering up my tag list with unimportant things.
