We went to the Dollars for Scholars Train Show at Winooski Educational Center this morning. Janna, having not been to a train show in many years, happily geeked out. ^_^ She asked me to take pictures of the following for her. I'm not going to add much in the way of commentary since I know very little about the details. I'm sure she'll help me out. ^_^

This kid was so excited at this layout. Whenever the train approached the corner where he was, he jumped on his tiptoes and flapped his hands. Very cute.

Janna says:

The steam engine is a #21165 Erie 4-4-0 steam locomotive (the real thing made by Baldwin Locomotive Works) produced in 1965. AC Gilbert made several variants of this "Casey Jones" type from 1961-65.

The yellow boxcar and red caboose the steam locomotive is pulling are just basic American Flyer rolling stock that could have been made any time between 1950-1965 (there was lots of re-use of molds, body types, parts, road names, and variations on paint colors, according to verified catalogs).

The trees and buildings on the layout are just generic Plasticville items. It is unclear of their vintage or issue. The Plasticville brand has been sold over and over for decades.

This guy owns the American Flyers in the photos that finish off this entry. Apparently these are pretty rare, so Janna was impressed to see them at such a small show.

Janna says:

The green/silver diesel locomotives are the "Rocket" set from 1955. They were PA-1 (passenger Alco) locomotives, sold as just a locomotive pair (the #474 and #475 we saw), or as a set with four passenger cars. The passenger cars were the #960 "Columbus", #961 "Jefferson", #962 "Hamilton" and #963 "Washington." We saw examples of these passenger cars with a green stripe down the middle that matched the Rocket diesels (these came in the full-sale set), and in plain silver color as well.

Janna says:

The orange and black diesel is a slightly later model. The original appeared at least in 1954 or 1955. However, what we have pictured here is the #21831 American Flyer Lines T&P diesel (a model of a real Alco GP-7), this one from 1958.

I missed taking pictures of the T gauge layout, the owner of which said that he knew someone who was going to put a layout of that size in the basement of their [presumably 1:12 scale] dollhouse for the husband doll to play with. :p
